Check your hormones. Your hormones play a large role in your energy, mood, fertility and fat storage. You can either ask your family doctor to do blood work and check your Thyroid (might as well check your Iron while you’re at it), or you can see a Naturopath who specializes in hormones and make sure that your body is functioning optimally. I know from experience that if your hormones are not at the right levels, it can be close to impossible to lose that extra fat. If your hormones are outta wack, you want to make sure that your are taking proper supplementation, and eating the right foods that will support your body, and not make matters worse.
Start weight training. One of the best ways to lose fat is to build muscle. Not only does muscle make you strong, fit, and support your bones, but it also speeds up your metabolism which will help you burn fat.
Eat the right type of food. In order for your body to be healthy, and function optimally, you need to be eating protein, carbohydrates and fats. The trick isn’t to cut carbs or fats, but to make sure that you’re eating the right kind of carbohydrates (complex carbs), and healthy fats. Eating whole, healthy food will transform your body and your mind. You will look great, and feel even better. Here are a few examples of foods that you should be eating: protein: hemp hearts, eggs, fish, tofu, carbohydrates: oats, quinoa, sweet potatoes, vegetables, fruit, fats: coconut oil, nuts, avocados, olive oil.
Change what you’re doing. Your body will typically respond really well to change. If you’re used to doing weight training everyday, start incorporating cardio. If you do light cardio regularly, start incorporating sprints into your program. Make sure to pay attention to how your body is responding to your current training program, if it’s been awhile since you’ve seen progress it’s time to switch it up!
Incorporate HIIT into your program. High Intensity Interval Training is a great way to burn fat, while holding onto muscle. It raises your heart rate, and helps build muscle while getting your cardio on. Not only do you burn a TON of calories during your workout, but you will be burning calories for hours after.
